Google wins apppeal against EU's €1.5B fine from 2019

Google oveturned a €1.5 billion (about $1.7 billion at today's rate) penalty by the European Union, issued back in March 2019. The fine was originally handed down after the search engine was found brokering deals that violated competition rules between 2006 and 2016.

Sources said the EU can appeal the General Court's decision to the bloc's highest court, the Court of Justice (CJEU), but it has yet to confirm whether it will do so.

Patent reveals possible tri-fold phone from Xiaomi

Way back in 2019, Xiaomi patented a tri-fold design, but knowing what we know now, that kind of funky design will never work in the real world. There was another patent that showed a more sensible design, but it needed segments to bend both ways, which may be tricky. A month ago, we heard rumors that Xiaomi will show off a tri-folding phone (or at least a prototype of one) at MWC in February 2025. Apple doesn't often have problems with its software update rollouts, even though it's making them available to all devices at the same time and not releasing them in stages like other companies do. But when it does run into issues, rarely as that may be, said issues are big.
