Governor Gianforte claims TikTok is “tied to foreign adversaries” and is providing significant amounts of user data to the Chinese Communist Party. TikTok was previously prohibited from government-issued devices in the state of Montana.

The teaser shared by iQOO reveals the iQOO Pad's design, which is similar to the vivo Pad2. And that's hardly a surprise since the iQOO Pad is believed to be a version of vivo Pad2 powered by the Dimensity 9000+ instead of the Dimensity 9000 chip.
If true, the iQOO Pad will sport a 12.1" 144Hz LCD of 2,800x1,968-pixel resolution, have up to 12GB RAM and 512GB storage onboard, and run Android 13-based OriginOS...

Report: Samsung is making big strides towards solid-state battery mass production
Samsung's battery division, like most other big tech companies these days, is tirelessly working on a new solid-state battery tech and according to people familiar with the matter, the firm has made big progress lately. Recently, Xiaomi also confirmed working on solid-state battery technology and that it's making progress, but QuantumScape is perhaps the most promising manufacturer. It's already working with select car manufacturers and has supplied its partners with prototypes to test with.

Apple schedules "special event" for June 5, likely for AR/VR headset
As the name suggests, Apple’s WorldWide Developer’s Conference (WWDC) is aimed mostly at developers. However, it’s also an opportunity to do some marketing with a well-publicized keynote and the announcement of new Apple OS versions that gets iPhone, iPad and Mac users buzzing.
This year there will also be a mysteriously titled “Special Event at Apple Park”, an all-day event on June 5. What could this be about?

Our Poco F5/Redmi Note 12 Turbo video review is up
The Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 wasn’t used in many phones, so the 7-series still needed a successor to the 778G. That came in March and was so good that Qualcomm called it Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2. Our first encounter with this chip comes in the form of the Poco F5 (aka Redmi Note 12 Turbo), which could prove to be one of the more competitive mid-rangers this year.
The F5 sells at €430 (after the early bird pricing of €380 expires) and its chipset can outperform anything in this price class that doesn’t have a flagship chip. Xiaomi also bumped up the battery by 500mAh to 5,000mAh compared to last...

Samsung to start buying OLED panels from LG for its TVs
Samsung may be a big TV manufacturer, but it doesn't do OLED TVs since 2015. The company bet on its QLED panels, which are far closer to LCD panels in terms of both cost and quality. The company is also rapidly developing its microLED tech, which is seen as superior to OLED in terms of image quality, but still prohibitively expensive and only available in the largest diagonals.
It now seems Samsung is looking to buy more time for the microLED tech to mature and will look to cover the premium market with OLED TVs. And the company has turned to its South Korean neighbor to achieve...

MediaTek looking to build a chipset with an Nvidia GPU next year
DigiTimes is quoting industry insiders who claim that Nvidia and MediaTek have struck a deal to build mobile chipsets with GeForce GPUs as early as next year. A particular target for such chips will be Windows on ARM devices.
Currently, MediaTek makes chipsets that end up in entry-level Chromebooks and has around 20% share in that market. A flagship chip with a powerful Nvidia GPU will allow MediaTek to push into the high-end laptop segment.

EU moves to ban misleading battery life ads, mandate third party repairs

Top 10 trending phones of week 19
Week 18 saw the official debut of a number of exciting phones and it's no wonder our trending chart looks very different from last week.

It was the Poco F5 that ended up on top this week, narrowly edging the Sony Xperia 1 V. The Sony flagship put up a great fight, but the fact that the Xiaomi phone had a two-day advantage proved decisive.

The new Motorola Edge+ (2023) for the US market is showing a lot of promise – last week’s poll shows that 45% of voters are interested in the Moto flagship. Mostly the same hardware is available as the Edge 40 Pro elsewhere, but the thing about the US market is that there are very few competing brands, especially in the flagship segment.
This means that the Edge+ is mostly going up against Galaxy S, Pixel and iPhone models, though there is the OnePlus too. While Samsung and Apple can rely on their brand names to support the higher price tags, Motorola’s popularity is past its prime.
