Huawei Watch GT 5 hands-on video published ahead of launch

Earlier this month, Huawei announced that it will reveal the Huawei Watch GT 5 on September 19 (Thursday this week) and even offered a glimpse at the design. Not that there is much to see, as there are no radical changes from the Watch GT 4. This was confirmed when renders of the new model leaked out and now there is even a short unboxing video.

The watch follows the now established design with an octagonal body and a circular graduated bezel. According to the note, however, this generation will come in 46mm and 42mm sizes,...

Putting a a real camera lens on a cameraphone with 1-inch sensor is a fascinating mod

Remember that Xiaomi concept camera phone that had an exposed 1” sensor and a mount for removable lenses? It was based on the Xiaomi 12S Ultra that was modded to accept Leica M mount lenses. It was cool, but it was just a concept and it was never made available to regular consumers.

If you have the DIY skills, you can make your own as this video from channel Mod and Shoot demonstrates. It starts with the Sharp Aquos R6, a Japan-only Android from 2021 which has a 1” 20MP sensor.

The phone's 19mm Leica Summicron lens had to go, of course,...

Weekly poll: are you getting an iPhone 16? Which one?

This week was the annual iPhone launch. The announcement was on Monday, pre-orders started on Friday, shipments and open sales will kick off next Friday. Will you be among the people who upgrade to an iPhone 16?

Let’s start with an overview. The 16-series brings more powerful Apple A18 and A18 Pro chipsets that can run AI, Apple Intelligence specifically. However, that won’t be out for at least a month and, if you are in the EU or China, it might take much longer.

Weekly poll results: the Honor Magic V3 proves hugely popular

Only 1 in 10 people think that there are better foldables than the Honor Magic V3, judging by the results from last week’s poll. This comes with an asterisk as some potential competitors just aren’t available in all the markets where the V3 is present. That’s their loss, however (and, perhaps, a loss for consumers).

Anyway, there is the persistent vote from people who just don’t like foldables. That’s okay, Honor has plenty of traditional phones. But those voters aside, most people like the Magic V3 – the only major issue with it is its price.

Even so, a whopping 41% of voters are...

The tri-fold Huawei Mate XT next to the Galaxy Z Fold6 really puts things into perspective

Huawei just launched the world's first tri-fold smartphone, the Mate XT Ultimate. It folds in three. And yet, even with all of that folding and three panels to account for, it manages to almost match Samsung's latest Galaxy Z Fold6 in thickness when folded.

The following picture shared on Reddit today speaks louder than a thousand words.

On paper, the situation is like this: the Mate XT is 12.8 mm thick, while the Fold6 is 12.1 mm thick, so - on paper - Samsung wins this war.

But - just look at the image above. 0.7 mm is almost imperceptible of a difference to the human eye. And...

For a company that supposedly "moved on" from the smartphone business, Meizu sure is launching a lot of smartphones these days. Earlier today we told you about the new Note 21 series, which is even going international, and the company has also teased another new device, seemingly part of a new series.

The Meizu Lucky 08 smartphone is advertised to arrive on September 25 as a "flagship AI phone" by the company. It will cost CNY 2,000, which right now translates into about $280 or €255 - so it can't possibly be a true flagship at that price.

It does, however, look...
