Introducing: GSMArena Battery Life Test 2.0 and the new Active Use Score

It was 12 years ago on this day that we introduced our original Battery life test. The first-ever device to get the GSMArena Endurance Rating was the Nokia N9. To give you an idea of how long ago that was, it was the same year the iPhone 4S was introduced, and Apple brought Siri for the very first time.

Back then, the landscape of mobile technology was vastly different. Social networks on mobile were in their infancy, 4G wasn't widespread, and online videos weren't as popular as today.

Our battery test reflected those times - focusing on calls, web browsing, local video watching, and...

Still, if they are, then they're more reliable than the CAD-based ones, as they can give you a more accurate impression of the phone's looks. Not that anything about its looks is likely to surprise you.

Apple is working on a new battery tech to boost endurance and charging speed

Even though Apple normally signs external companies for manufacturing, it tries to do as much of the engineering and design in-house. And according to ETnews the company's latest research and development efforts are aimed toward the battery of the iPhone.

The report suggets Apple is experimenting with new materials for the cathodes - nickel, cobalt, manganese and aluminum. The new approach will also see the silicon content increase substantially. Silicon expands when it heats up during charging, but Apple has found a way to mitigate the issue.

The new cathode mix promises improved...

Last week Apple unveiled the revamped 24-inch iMac with the M3 chip, and rumors have been swirling for a while about the company also releasing a 27-inch version with its latest silicon.

For those who think the 24" iMac's screen is too small, Apple recommends pairing a 27" Studio Display with a Mac Studio or Mac Mini, but of course that means you...

The Huawei P70 will reportedly use an in-house image sensor for its cameras

With the introduction of the Mate 60 series Huawei resumed the manufacture of 5G-capable HiSilicon Kirin chipsets for use in its smartphones. Now it seems that the company plans to swap another chip with an in-house design, the image sensor.

Huawei has long been using Sony sensors in its phones, a peculiar design with two yellow sub-pixels instead of two greens. However, leakster Fixed Focus Digital reports that Sony and Huawei have not renewed their contract – and that Huawei doesn’t have any more Sony sensors in its inventory.

This fuels the speculation that the upcoming Huawei P70...
