The features will arrive later this year, revealed Apple without providing a detailed schedule. We expect them to make their way to iOS 17 and iPadOS 17, as well as some...

Report: Samsung is making big strides towards solid-state battery mass production

Our Poco F5/Redmi Note 12 Turbo video review is up

The Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 wasn’t used in many phones, so the 7-series still needed a successor to the 778G. That came in March and was so good that Qualcomm called it Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2. Our first encounter with this chip comes in the form of the Poco F5 (aka Redmi Note 12 Turbo), which could prove to be one of the more competitive mid-rangers this year. The F5 sells at €430 (after the early bird pricing of €380 expires) and its chipset can outperform anything in this price class that doesn’t have a flagship chip. Xiaomi also bumped up the battery by 500mAh to 5,000mAh compared to last...

Samsung to start buying OLED panels from LG for its TVs

Samsung may be a big TV manufacturer, but it doesn't do OLED TVs since 2015. The company bet on its QLED panels, which are far closer to LCD panels in terms of both cost and quality. The company is also rapidly developing its microLED tech, which is seen as superior to OLED in terms of image quality, but still prohibitively expensive and only available in the largest diagonals. It now seems Samsung is looking to buy more time for the microLED tech to mature and will look to cover the premium market with OLED TVs. And the company has turned to its South Korean neighbor to achieve...

MediaTek looking to build a chipset with an Nvidia GPU next year

DigiTimes is quoting industry insiders who claim that Nvidia and MediaTek have struck a deal to build mobile chipsets with GeForce GPUs as early as next year. A particular target for such chips will be Windows on ARM devices. Currently, MediaTek makes chipsets that end up in entry-level Chromebooks and has around 20% share in that market. A flagship chip with a powerful Nvidia GPU will allow MediaTek to push into the high-end laptop segment. Nvidia has its own ARM-based designs, famously the Nintendo Switch runs on a Tegra chip, though that thing is ancient at this point. There’s also...

Kyocera stops making phones for consumers

Today Kyocera has announced that it's officially leaving the consumer mobile phone business, after a struggling period in which the company amassed a JPY 2.27 billion ($16.6 million) loss this February. In other news, it looks like Kyocera was still making phones - even though you, like us, may not have heard of any in the past few months (or years). The company is only quitting the consumer space, by the way. It will continue to serve corporate customers. With deteriorating profitability, something had to be done and apparently axing the consumer products was it. "We can no longer find...

After the host breaks up the plastic window of the AeroAcrive Cooler and props the AeroActive Portal’s flap open...

EU moves to ban misleading battery life ads, mandate third party repairs

The European Parliament drafted new legislation with the goal of offering better product labeling in the EU and limiting misleading product characteristics, environmental claims and repairability restrictions. The directive will target the use of unsubstantiated environmental claims on packing and ads such as “climate neutral” and “environmentally friendly” by manufacturers if these are not backed by detailed evidence. The legislation draft also foresees clear labeling for the cost of product repairs and any potential repair restrictions by manufacturers. The industry will no...
